Summary Information

The project is in Innisfail on Mamu Country, within the Wet Tropics and aims to generate Cassowary Credits under the Rainforest Replanting Method, which aligns with the Cassowary Credits Scheme’s Rainforest Replanting Methodology and the Clean Energy Regulator’s Environmental Plantings Method. It also seeks to deliver Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).

 

This dual-credit initiative will be implemented through the following rainforest biodiversity benefit activities:

  • Native rainforest regeneration on degraded land at Ninds Creek.
  • Engagement of Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples (Mamu) as contractors and knowledge holders.
  • Education and demonstration activities with local schools and landholders.

  • This is the first stacked biodiversity and carbon credit project in the region. It is located adjacent to Moresby Range National Park and will serve as a practical demonstration site for landholders.
  • Expected outcomes include 100 years of rainforest regeneration, strengthened native species and ecosystems, employment of Rainforest Aboriginal contractors, student engagement, and long-term land restoration.
  • Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples (Mamu) are actively involved through the Mamu Traditional Owners, who are engaged in project delivery and cultural stewardship
